La 3a Conferenza Mondiale dei Giovani Toscani

13-15th July 2007

San Rossore – PISA

This was a fantastic opportunity for all youths around the world to come together and share ideas and insights about their own youth associations. Over 200 youths from around the world and 100 youths from Toscana attended San Rossore in Pisa for 3 days of intense group work!

Adriano Lucchesi from I Girasoli tells us of his experiences from San Rossore...

The Terza Conferenza Mondiale per Giovani Toscani was to say the least, an exciting and fruitful one. Arriving after 26 hours in the air and 32 hours travelling time altogether Loretta Dinelli, Sara Lucchesi and I were most eager to see what this conference would bring. The ladies from the travel agency were very friendly and well organised, picking us up from the airport and letting us know how the conference would be organised. Dinner at the hotel was excellent the first night, and after plane food it was more than what we needed! The dinner was also an informal opportunity to meet and greet other representatives from around the world. After a long overdue night of sleep we awoke to a beautiful summer’s day in Pisa. We arrived a day earlier than most so we had the day all to ourselves so decided to enjoy what Pisa had to offer and went and walked around town. We ended up meeting with another representative by chance, while relaxing on the grass only 50 metres away from the world’s famous leaning tower of Pisa.

The next day the conference was underway and we tuned our ears into what was an exciting and interesting overview of the youth of Tuscany overseas by delegates of the government and regional representatives. The following day it was the representatives turn to voice their opinions. These issues ranged from extra support from the Tuscan government, more initiatives from other Tuscan youth committees to keep in touch more often and ideas to help make attending our clubs more fun and interesting for the Tuscan youths in our counties. The final day was a summary of the four groups (culture, solidarity, formation and communication) which we were branched into for the two days where we focused on certain fields of interest for Tuscan youth awareness and issues overseas.

Throughout the conference we enjoyed beautiful breakfasts at the hotel and lunch and dinner at San Rossore. While at the conference I met and became friends with many delegates from overseas, which without this opportunity I would not have met. We were able to discuss and propose new ideas and initiatives we could take together and separately to help our respective clubs.

This in essence, is what I believe the conference was. It was an ideal and productive opportunity to discuss and meet other delegates who are trying to do what you do. That is, to continue the traditions and uphold the heritage of Tuscany in our countries by enticing and allowing Tuscan youths to enjoy festivities which are based on the Tuscan culture, to respect the traditions and heritage of our past and never ceasing to move with the times to keep enticing new members.
