Movie Nights

2008

4th April

On the 4th April 2008 at 7.30pm around 35 people gathered at the club rooms with some popcorn and lollies ready to watch Tre uomini e una gamba (Three men and a leg). With a title like that, we didn't know what to expect. But we received a funny comedy with everyone leaving with tears in their eyes from laughter! A great family night. Thank you to all that came! Looking forward to the next one!

2007

27 July

On the 27th July 2007 at 8pm around 35 people gathered at the club rooms with some popcorn and lollies ready to watch Leonardo Pieraccioni in another one of his great comedies called Ti amo in tutte le lingue nel mondo. We hope all enjoyed themselves and look forward to seeing everyone at the next movie at the club!

2006

30th July

On the 30th July 37 people attended Palace Cinemas in Balwyn for a great love story! Many women came without husbands or boyfriends because they knew it was going to be a tear jerker! And that it was... for some anyway! With a stomach full of great cakes, sandwiches and lollies, everyone was ready for the movie with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. At the end of the movie many came out confused about the time difference in the movie but all tried to explain it to each other afterwards. It was a great success and was enjoyed by all!

10th November

On the 10th November I Girasoli wanted to show off the new projector that they bought for the newly renovated club. Therefore they conducted a movie night, showing the Italian movie Il Paradiso All'improvviso with the famous Leonardo Pieraccioni. The night didn't start off well, with a few "technical" problems, but with pizza and foccacia to distract everyone we were soon underway! 36 people enjoyed this funny movie and everyone was impressed by how wonderful the projector and surround sound system sounded and looked. Thank you for everyone's patience that night and for coming along to enjoy a great night out!

2005

With the Italian Film festival on in October what better time to show a great Italian movie! Together with the senior committee we showed the film Manuale d'Amore (Manual of Love) after a showcase of Giardini di Toscana. This exhibit was to show people the great gardens and attractions that there are in the region of Tuscany. This was held at Palace Cinemas in Balwyn and was a very successful night!

2004

23rd February

I Girasoli presented "Under The Tuscan Sun" starring Diane Lane. Based on Frances Mayes' memoir of the same name, the story involves a just-divorced writer who while on a vacation buys a villa in Tuscany on a whim and decides to begin life anew. This was shown at Westgarth Cinemas.

24th September

I Girasoli were proud to present the latest film of Tuscan comic genius Roberto Benigni, "Pinocchio". The film is based on the classic Tuscan tale by Carlo Collodi of a puppet that yearns to be a little boy. We had a great turn out of about 40 people show up at the club rooms with their pillows and cushions waiting to watch this funny movie. Everyone enjoyed their lollies and popcorn during the movie!

2003

I Girasoli Film Night 1

I Girasoli's year commenced in February, with a film night at the Westgarth cinema. We were treated to the Oscar winning film, “The Hours” with none other than “our own” Nicole Kidman. While the movie did not seem to bring a smile, there were certainly no disappointed faces seen once supper and drinks were served after the movie!

The second movie night in October was another success as approximately 70 people turned out to laugh along with Catherine Zeta-Jones and George Clooney in "Intolerable Cruelty". We filled up Balwyn cinema and the night ended with yet another beautiful supper thanks to the Girasoli.
